E-Z Weld Low VOC

E-Z Weld products are manufactured to be Low Volatile Organic Compounds

All E-Z Weld solvent cement, cleaner and primer are Low VOC with the exception of #219, #230 and #260. All Low VOC products meet the requirements for Low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) emission limits, established by the State of California South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) Rule 1168. Several other states have adopted regulations very similar to the California regulations, notable, those participating in the OTC, Ozone Transportation Commission, (Conn., Md., N.J.). Other states are considering or are in the process of adopting similar rules.

The rationale for the adoption of the more stringent limits on VOCs is to reduce the impact of these compounds on the environment, notably to reduce the depletion of the ozone, layer. In doing so, our industry is helping to improve and promote a healthier environment.

The limits established by SCAQMD are detailed in the following table and are adhered to in all of our formulations:

Product Type Max VOC Emission (Gram/liter)
PVC Solvent Cements 510
CPVC Solvent Cements 490
ABS Solvent Cements 325
Primers and Cleaners 550

In addition to the initiatives by various regulatory agencies in the United States to help improve the environment, there is an ongoing global effort to speed up such activity. The U.S. Green Building Council developed a certification system, now well established internationally and very active in Europe, named LEED, (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). Under this scheme, credits are given to builders and developers who utilize environmentally friendly and certifiable materials in their projects. LEED has adopted California’ Rule 1168 as it applies to solvent cements and primers/cleaners and will grant Indoor Environmental Quality credits for their use in building projects.
